Frequently Asked Questions

  • Baseball and softball physical therapy is sport-specific rehab and performance training built around the demands of throwing, hitting, fielding, and running. It addresses the injuries most common in baseball and softball players and gets you back on the field with the strength and confidence to compete.

  • Some of the most common injuries we see in baseball and softball players include rotator cuff tears, UCL sprains, shoulder impingement, labral tears, tennis elbow, oblique strains, hip flexor injuries, hamstring strains, knee injuries, and ankle sprains. Pitchers and overhead athletes are especially prone to shoulder and elbow injuries from repetitive throwing.

  • In some cases, yes. Not every UCL injury requires surgery. Physical therapy can help reduce pain, restore elbow function, and strengthen the surrounding muscles to support the joint. We will assess your injury and give you an honest picture of whether PT is a viable path or whether surgery is the more appropriate next step. My vote is to always go with the less invasive stuff first, right?

  • As soon as possible. Shoulder pain in pitchers does not resolve on its own, and throwing through it typically makes things worse. Early intervention gives you the best chance at a full recovery and helps protect your arm long term.

  • We follow a structured, progressive return to throwing program based on your specific injury, your position, and your recovery timeline. You will not just go from zero to throwing off the mound. We build your arm back up through a step-by-step process that prioritizes mechanics, workload, and pain-free movement before you return to full competition.

  • Yes. If movement limitations, muscle imbalances, or mobility restrictions are holding your mechanics back, addressing those through physical therapy can directly impact your performance. Stronger, more efficient movement means more power, better control, and less wear on your arm and body over a full season.

  • Yes. Youth athletes are not small adults, and their developing bodies need age-appropriate, sport-specific care. Whether your athlete is dealing with Little Leaguer's shoulder, growth plate issues, or early overuse injuries, we build a recovery plan that protects their long-term development.

  • Nope! My clinic policy and Washington State law allows you to go see a physical therapist directly WITHOUT the need for a referral from your doctor (yay!).

However, if you plan to submit for insurance reimbursement, you’ll want to check with your insurance company to see if they require one. Just call the number on the back of your insurance card and the agent can tell you whether your plan requires you to have a referral for physical therapy.

  • I love working with all athletes and helping them get back in the game. It’s kinda my thing.

Some of the people I’ve worked with include: runners, hockey players, soccer players, softball players, baseball players, football players, Crossfit athletes, and cyclists.

  • I’d recommend wearing whatever you’d normally wear to the gym. And please bring athletic shoes. You want to be comfortable and we will be moving.

It also depends on where you’re injured. If you normally wear pants to the gym but want to treat knee pai bring a pair of shorts as well. If you normally wear a t-shirt but have shoulder pain, please bring a tank top so I can get a better look at the area. The more I can see and observe the injured area, the better!

But as always, your comfort is most important.

  • So we’ve booked the initial evaluation - now, what’s the next step?

You’ll receive welcome emails from my software, PTEverywhere. You’ll be asked to sign-in (create an account) and fill out the intake paperwork online. If you are not able to fill out the information online, please reach out to kacie@ptgamechanger.com for assistance.

Once all of your paperwork is signed, it’s a go! Next up, initial evaluation.
